About the Team

The Client Experience (CEX) team at Disney+ Hotstar is responsible for creating brilliant experiences for over 150 million clients across multiple countries. The team handles the entire customer journey, from sign-up to personalized content reviews on various devices. With a focus on experimentation and data-driven decisions, the CEX team strives to deliver quick and intuitive experiences that cater to diverse client segments, including mobile and living room viewers.

The Discovery Group, in particular, focuses on transforming content discovery. By designing intuitive and personalized experiences, the team enables seamless exploration and enhancement of client preferences. Collaborating with engineers, data scientists, architects, and product owners, the Discovery Group optimizes algorithms and recommendation systems, delivering immersive content discovery experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical architect for teams within the Discovery contract, ensuring the quality of engineering and design of systems.
  • Practically decompose complex issues into simple, straightforward solutions.
  • Develop technical roadmaps, define future directions, and drive technological advancements.
  • Analyze and improve data quality and metrics, understanding system interdependencies and constraints.
  • Utilize internal and industry knowledge to make informed design decisions.
  • Apply technical influence over 50+ colleagues, enhancing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing deep knowledge and experience. Mentor on cutting-edge technical matters for professional development.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • At least 4+ years of experience building large mobile systems.
  • A strong foundation with hands-on experience as a Senior software development engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in datastores (SQL, NoSQL) and the ability to choose the right technology based on requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and design for performance.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance across backend, frontend, and ML technologies.
  • Thrives in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment, achieving stretch goals.
  • Solid business judgment, proven ability to influence others, and strong analytical thinking skills.
  • Extensive experience in mentoring junior designers to progress.
  • A pioneering spirit and the ability to have fun!

Preferred Education and Experience

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Tech/B.E/Masters or a comparable degree from a reputable university.
  • At least 13 years of professional experience as a backend/full stack developer with hands-on experience building highly scalable and performant distributed systems.
  • Any experience with ML, data science, or search in B2C (e-commerce, OTT) is a plus.
