Software Engineering Manager (Remote)
Job Summary As the largest online distributor of restaurant supplies and equipment, WebstaurantStore offers more than 430,000 products with fast, dependable shipping. Unlike most in the e-commerce arena, nearly all of our technology is designed, developed, and managed in-house, giving our teams the freedom to build custom solutions in a rapidly evolving market. This consistent, organic growth is why we have a need for a Software Engineering Manager to join us! This role will involve leading talented Software Development teams responsible for the development of our HRIS software. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background in software combined with a proven track record of managing high-performing engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Foster an inclusive team culture focused on innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
- Ensure adherence to software development best practices, including CI/CD, code quality, and observability.
- Responsible for performance management and career development of a team of approximately 10 Software Engineers.
- Organizing and managing timelines, which includes collaborating with BA, QA and development teams.
- Actively contributing to code reviews, architecture decisions and process improvements.
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed while sitting/standing and interfacing with a personal computer.
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
- Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- Requires occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
- Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50lbs.
Remote Work Qualifications
- Access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day tasks.
- Access to a home router and modem.
- A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free. The space should have strong wireless connection or a wired Ethernet connection (wired connection is preferred, if possible).
- A valid, physical address (apartment, suite, etc.). PO Boxes are not supported, as a physical address is required for you to receive your computer equipment.
- The desire and ability to work and communicate with other team members via chat, webcam, etc.
- Legal residents of one of the following states: (AK, AL, AR, AZ, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NH, NM, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV, or WY). H-1B Visa Sponsorship Not Available, W2 only.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering with a proven track record of managing high-performing engineering teams.
- Software engineering background with proven experience leading an engineering team in an Agile environment.
- A collaborative team mentality and the ability to successfully interface with other managers to solve problems and inspire results.
- Leading teams using Microsoft Stack (particularly C#) and React.
- Ability to communicate complex initiatives clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring understanding across teams.
- Utilize exceptional conflict resolution skills to navigate difficult conversations and foster positive outcomes.
- Showcase strong emotional intelligence to build rapport, manage relationships, and respond appropriately to diverse situations.
- Strong self-management skills to be effective with minimal supervision.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
