The Opportunity: As a Tableau Developer at TSPi, you will work with business owners to define, develop, and improve data visualization projects. Responsibilities include leading data visualization projects; documenting and implementing business requirements; creating and maintaining data infrastructure for data visualization projects; developing and testing front-end UI; and supporting and mentoring junior developers through the data visualization development process. The position works with data from a wide range of projects across multiple subject matters, including but not limited to health systems strengthening, global development, education, housing, food securities, and environmental compliance. Job Duties:

  • Lead multiple Tableau visualization projects.
  • Serve as a resource to project staff in all phases of the development and implementation of data visualization systems, solutions, and process improvements.
  • Analyze business problems to determine appropriate technical and/or non-technical solutions.
  • Determine technical requirements - interface with clients/managers to gather specifications on the desired task.
  • Provide design direction – present initial wireframes/mock-ups and proofs of concepts to clients and gather feedback then present final designs and methodologies for approval.
  • Develop data visualizations for internal, client, and public audiences.
  • Ensure dashboards meet accessibility requirements as applicable and as a design principle.
  • Work closely with the project team to normalize the data and make them available for visualization.
  • Create data transformation processes using skills such as SQL for analysis, validation, and visualization of data.
  • Test data transformation processes for accuracy given various expected and unexpected inputs, and quality of visualizations across all supported browsers and devices.
  • Support project by training team on use of solution.

Experience:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with tight deadlines and competing requirements. Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Professional and technical experience as a Data Visualization Developer, including Tableau expertise.
  • Database experience such as Snowflake, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or AWS RedShift.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle including Agile and traditional project management and delivery methodologies
  • Strong written and oral communications skills, particularly in translating perceived needs into technical requirements.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.

Required Skills:

  • Tableau expertise including advanced skills such as level of detail calculations, spatial joins, map layers, advanced visualizations (boxplots, heatmaps, Gantt charts, bullet charts), dashboard formatting (containers, padding, mobile layouts), parameter actions, SQL connections.
  • Ability to understand various data types, sources, architecture, and structures needed to implement data visualization solutions.
  • SQL skills for analysis, validation, and verification of data
  • Database experience such as Snowflake, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or AWS RedShift
  • An adherence to industry best practices when creating dashboards and any code.
  • Experience creating mock-ups by hand or with tools such as Figma or PowerPoint
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple tasks including setting priorities and adapting to changes.
  • Ability to obtain security clearances required.

Education:

  • BA/BS with (5-8) years of experience, or master’s degree with 3+ years of experience, OR the equivalent combination of education and experience
