The Council Specialist delivers a best-in-class volunteer experience for the Earthjustice Council, a national volunteer leadership group, primarily comprised of Earthjustice major donors. With the Council’s focus on growing Earthjustice’s donor community, the Specialist supports and carries out a volunteer program that is fun, impactful, and engaging while being closely aligned with the strategic priorities of the organization. Partnering with Development staff and volunteer leaders, the Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day program operations, actively collaborates with Development colleagues around the Council’s fundraising activities, and builds strong relationships with Council members. This is not a staff supervisory position. The Council Specialist is expected to work a full-time (37.5 hours/week) schedule and may work hybrid or remote from the following locations: Denver, CO, San Francisco, CA, New York City, other U.S. locations negotiable.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all Council-related activities, communications, meetings, and events.
  • Serve as the day-to-day Council program contact person and ensure an excellent end-to-end experience, from recruitment to offboarding, in partnership with key staff and Council Co-Chairs.
  • Gather, submit, and track Council-related data and plans to help support active engagement, program evaluation, and overall member experience.
  • Actively coordinate with Gift Officers to support the Council’s fundraising work.
  • Collaborate with Development staff to maximize the Council’s contributions and efforts, recognize their volunteer leadership, and drive their engagement around Earthjustice events and trips.
  • Support the Associate Director’s portfolio of non-major donor Council members.
  • Support Development initiatives such as strategic planning, innovation, infrastructure and operations, rapid response efforts, and expanding collaboration across teams.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of Earthjustice’s programmatic work, strategic advancements, thought leadership, and more.
  • Participate in organizational initiatives such as compliance, knowledge sharing, committees, etc.
  • Actively pursue professional development and contribute to a culture of learning by building skills and sharing knowledge.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of successful volunteer management experience in a growing organization.
  • 1+ years of individual fundraising experience, preferably with major donors.
  • Demonstrated experience with meetings and events planning.
  • Excellence with details, effective follow-through, and staying organized.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that maintain great working relationships and advance the work of a people-centered, mission-driven organization.
  • Outstanding communication and comprehension skills as seen through clear writing and speaking
  • Ability and comfort with giving, receiving, and incorporating feedback and direction.
  • Contributes towards an equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages partnership, active listening, and integrating diverse perspectives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Earthjustice’s values of Justice, Excellence, Inclusion, and Partnership.
  • Sit for extended periods with occasional standing and walking.
  • Type, file, and/or handle office equipment.
  • Lift and carry materials.
  • Read documents, conduct computer work and document review.
  • Occasional travel for Council or other department meetings.
