JOB TITLE: Civil Engineer - Generation Development & Construction REQUISITION: DEV0003 DEPARTMENT: Generation Development LOCATION: Topeka, KS / Kansas City, MO / Wichita, KS PAY RANGE: Engineer II: $83,600 - $104,500 Staff Engineer: $93,400 - $116,800 Sr Engineer: $94,600 - $126,500 Lead Engineer: $111,400 - $148,500 Principal Engineer: $116,200 - $154,900 Evergy is committed to leading the Responsible Portfolio Transition. Evergy's 2024 Triennial Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) called for 3,600 MWs of new wind and solar and 2,445 MWs of new conventional generating assets over the next ten years. Seeking a technically strong and collaborative Civil Engineer to support the development, construction, and commissioning of conventional generation projects. Reporting to the Manager - Conventional Generation Engineering, the candidate has technical responsibility to support the development of conventional generation projects. The engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Owner's Engineer (OE), EPC Contractors, Major Equipment Supplier, and internal Transmission & Substation (T&S) teams to ensure safe, timely, cost-effective, and environmentally sound project delivery. The engineer will assist with projects that are complex, multi-million-dollar capital projects with multi-year timeframes that span diverse disciplines. The type of projects will include conventional generation including simple cycle combustion turbines, and combined cycle combustion turbines. This candidate will provide engineering support to the development and construction of civil and structural systems. Key Responsibilities: * Provide technical oversight to enforce contract requirements on EPC Contractors and Major Equipment Suppliers for civil and structural work. * Coordinate with OE, EPC, Power Island Suppliers, and internal teams to ensure project success. * Promote safety and contribute to a positive team culture. * Support multi-disciplinary, multi-year capital projects with high complexity and value. * Evaluate site development plans, grading, drainage, foundations, and structural designs for major equipment. * Ensure proper integration of roads, drainage systems, and stormwater management. * Ensure proper integration of roads, drainage systems, and stormwater management. * Verify adherence to approved drawings and standards (e.g., ACI, AISC, ASTM). * Participate in bid evaluations and ensure technical compliance for civil works. * Monitor delivery schedules and inspect civil installations including concrete pours, rebar placement, and structural steel erection. * Monitor delivery schedules and inspect civil installations including concrete pours, rebar placement, and structural steel erection. * Onsite lead for all civil and structural engineering RFIs and oversight. Education and Experience Requirements: This position requires a minimum Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited school with at least 4 years of engineering experience in the design, construction and/or maintenance of power plant control systems. The applicant must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed. Chemical and Industrial Engineers will also be considered. Additional Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Knowledge of of geotechnical, structural, and site development principles. Familiarity with ACI, AISC, ASTM, and other civil/structural codes. Ability to interpret civil drawings, foundation plans, and structural details. Preferred experience with foundations for heavy equipment, site development for power plants, and EPC project environments. The successful candidate must possess high initiative and strong interpersonal skills and exhibit good computer skills. Licenses or Certificates Required: Must have valid driver's license. Must have satisfactory work record including good attendance. EIT or PE is preferred. Working Conditions: Must have the ability to perform the physical activities of the job. Requires extensive on-site plant work with some office work. Requires the ability to work outdoors and in an industrial plant environment including, but not limited to, exposure to ambient temperature extremes, dusty/moist environments, climbing ladders and stairways, working at heights on elevated structures and platforms, and working in cramped spaces occasionally which may require bending, stooping, and standing. Travel is expected to development sites at least 10% of the time up to 100% during peak construction and commissioning. Some in-state and out of state travel required.
