Job Title: Junior Agentic AI Engineer (Google Vertex AI)

Location: Remote (based in London)

Contract duration: 3 months initial Start date: Immediate

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior Agentic AI Engineer to join our innovative team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and deployment of cutting-edge AI agents on Google Cloud's Vertex AI platform. The successful candidate will work closely with senior engineers and data scientists to design, build, and optimise intelligent agents that automate complex tasks, enhance decision-making, and drive business value. This is an ideal position for a recent graduate or early-career professional passionate about agentic AI and eager to grow their expertise in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of AI agents using Google Vertex AI, specifically leveraging Vertex AI Agent Builder.
  • Utilise Agent Development Kits (ADKs) to create, configure, and integrate agent functionalities.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented Python code for agent logic, data processing, and API integrations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications for agentic solutions.
  • Perform testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of AI agents to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Monitor agent performance, identify areas for improvement, and contribute to iterative enhancements.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in agentic AI, large language models (LLMs), and Google Vertex AI capabilities.
  • Contribute to the documentation of agent architectures, development processes, and operational guidelines.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Programming:
    • Proficiency in Python is essential, with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
  • Cloud & AI Platforms:
    • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, particularly Vertex AI.
    • A strong understanding of, or demonstrable experience with, Vertex AI Agent Builder for creating and managing AI agents.
    • Knowledge of Agent Development Kits (ADKs) and their application in building intelligent agents.
  • AI/ML Fundamentals:
    • Basic understanding of machine learning concepts, large language models (LLMs), and their application in agentic systems.
    • Familiarity with prompt engineering techniques.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience with version control systems, such as Git.
    • Understanding of RESTful APIs and experience with integrating external services.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a keen eye for detail.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
    • A proactive and collaborative team player with a strong desire to learn and adapt to new technologies.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Prior experience with other AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Understanding of MLOps principles and practices.
  • Relevant Google Cloud certifications (e.g., Associate Cloud Engineer, Professional Machine Learning Engineer).
  • Experience with containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
