Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an opening for a Welding Trainer and Development Coordinator at its manufacturing facility in Palmetto, Florida (Port Manatee/Manatee County).
The Welding Trainer is responsible for ensuring the training and re-training of production personnel in the application of accurate methods, principles and welding processes at the Port Manatee Manufacturing Facility. The Welding Trainer will assist the Sr. Welding Trainer in the set up and training of individuals and administer welder training, qualification, and qualification prolongation. As a Welding Trainer you will guide shop personnel on welding and assembly questions and provide mentorship when required. Additionally, this position will support the Welding Engineer in weld procedure development and new equipment evaluation.

Job Description
This facility manufactures cryogenic equipment to support the company's industrial gas and LNG business. As well as pressure vessels, distillation columns, piping skids and cold boxes it is also the world's leading manufacturer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) heat exchangers. Each heat exchanger consists of coil wound tube bundles housed within an aluminum or stainless-steel pressure shell, all of which are assembled and welded by skilled employees at the plant.
Principal responsibilities for this position include:
- Perform all types of conventional welding on various Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Materials in both the manual, semi-automatic or mechanized mode: shielded metal arc, flux cored, gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, sub arc and thermal and mechanical cutting and gouging operations.
- Train employees on all types of conventional welding above, hand and power tools, and other specialized technical training.
- Administer welding skill assessments, testing, and qualifications in a fair and consistent manner.
- Manage and maintain the welder utilization prolongation log.
- Increase welding production efficiency and improve weld quality by maintaining a significant shop floor presence and providing advice and training.
- Assist welding and fitting operations with equipment on fixture set ups.
- Perform routine maintenance and assist in calibration of shop welding equipment.
- Assist Welding Engineer in developing new weld procedures, welding techniques, and assessing new welding equipment.
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent with extensive welding experience in multiple processes and materials; specifically, 5000 series aluminum and austenitic stainless steel.
- Experience with various types of welding equipment, strong understanding of basic mathematics, blueprint reading, fitting techniques, ASME / AWS welding symbols, and knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing techniques.
- Proficiency in the safe use of hand and power tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to train others, training experience preferred.
- Ability to lead teams of individuals with a diverse skill range.
- Computer literacy; experience in Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
- 5+ years welding experience in ASME pressure vessel and piping
- Experience in a formal teaching/instructing role.
