VP_Software Development

This is a full-time permanent role, based in the UK, with flexible hours around core office availability Monday to Friday. The person in this role reports to Talogy’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The role can be performed remotely, with occasional travel for meetings, events and workshops.

Core Skills and Responsibilities

The daily impact of this role is characterized by (though not limited to) the following core skills and tasks: 

  • Provide technical thought leadership and guidance to multiple development teams. 
  • Take accountability for defining the technical vision of products. 
  • Understand product design and work closely with other technical leads and technical teams to set up and stick to best practices for development and deployment. 
  • Build a high performing team, attracting top talent, and creating an environment where each team member is put in a position to succeed and the team delivers more as a team than the collective strength of the individuals. 
  • Coordinate with the product management teams to develop the roadmaps for how technology products will be used and enhanced for competitive advantage on a global scale. 
  • Help define enterprise technical standards. 
  • Build an understanding of the Talogy business, key stakeholders, product visions, and roadmaps. 
  • Partner with Product Owners and QA Leads to establish a technical product vision that enables and supports product feature roadmap and efficient product development approaches. 
  • Create alignment between Talogy’s product vision, R&D and software engineering strategies. 
  • Understand the industry direction and trends, incorporating these into the Talogy product vision. 
  • Actively participate in Agile Team delivery, setting development priorities and product planning. 
  • Work with the CPTO to prepare annual budget goals. 
  • Communicate effectively with senior leaders to identify and align on strategic priorities and key needs for our experts. 
  • Communicate frequently and clearly with cross-functional teams. 
  • Define and deliver key success metrics for technology improvements and client onboarding. 
  • Accelerate velocity of the team’s execution by identifying points of leverage and unblocking top dependencies. 
  • Share ideas across development teams – build opportunities to bring developers together and get them talking. 
  • Oversee performance management of team members, identify improvement and growth plans, and work to help provide proper training when necessary. 
  • Provide coaching and consistent performance review and feedback. 
  • Recommend assignment of development resources across teams. 

Background Requirements and Preferred Experience

The following qualifications and experiences are considered foundational requirements for this role: 

  • Substantial experience in a senior position leading a software engineering department, preferably in an enterprise-scale cloud environment.  
  • Breadth of experience in growing companies of comparable size, geographical reach and complexity to Talogy, preferably with experience of handling multiple technology platforms.  
  • Experience of managing international teams across functional and geographical areas within an organization, both on and off-shore, both employed and via a third party where appropriate. 
  • Proficiency in delivering end-to-end quality in product development, data analysis, reports, and effective communication across senior leadership.  
  • Demonstrable skill in using metrics to implement comprehensive action plans and goals that drive operational excellence and growth.  
  • Experience in continuous integration, delivery, test driven development and pair programming.  
  • Hands-on experience across the software development lifecycle and modern software development languages.  
  • Understanding of technology tools and methodologies for automation testing, project management and client management, e.g. Azure, AWS, AGILE etc.
