Job description: Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle is currently recruiting for Middle School Boys Basketball Coaches. The season is scheduled to begin Monday, November 7, 2022 and concludes in midFebruary. Required orientation meetings will occur on Monday, October 30, 3:30-7:30 pm.
Responsibilities
The coach, reporting to the boys basketball program heads, will join an athletics program that includes 25 varsity teams, most of which have both sub-varsity and middle-school counterparts. The boys basketball program supports a varsity, JV, and JVC team as well as several teams at the Middle School. The coach is responsible for coaching duties with their team, as well as other program-wide duties as assigned by the boys basketball program head. Specific responsibilities include: * Compliance with all Lakeside School and Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) policies and procedures.
- Commitment to providing supports, messaging, actions, and opportunities to a diverse student body who come to school with different and evolving lived experiences and levels of preparation as athletes.
- Supervision and instruction of student-athletes during team activities.
- Maintenance and inventory of team equipment and apparel.
- Attendance at required program and interscholastic athletics program meetings.
- Support of multi-sport participation for student-athletes.
- Promotion of balanced achievement in all areas of school life for studentathletes.
- Availability for all practices (twice per week for 75 minutes at either 3:45 or 5 pm) and competitions (weekends) during their coaching season.
- Experience playing or coaching basketball at the club, middle school, high school or college level.
- Demonstration of cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the culture lenses they bring to interactions.
- An understanding of different perspectives, the ability to interact respectfully with cultures other than their own, and ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with people who have different cultural frameworks.
- Candidates must satisfactorily complete at least two criminal background checks and possess (or obtain) a current First Aid and CPR certification prior to the start of their season.
