Position Summary
Bellevue College's Early Learning and Teacher Program is building a pathway for students to complete the Initial Certificate in Russian, and this part-time/adjunct faculty position will join in and contribute to a community of passionate educators who proudly teach in the ELTE Program. This position will provide essential assistance in developing curricular materials as well as delivering instruction in Russian to a growing multi-cultural, multi-ability Russian-speaking population of teachers in the Eastside's early learning community.
This position includes curriculum development, teaching, and other administrative work. The individual in this role will develop curricular materials and teach in Russian for this innovative program designed to serve the Russian-speaking population of early learning teachers on the Eastside.
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
Adjunct Professor is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.
Quarterly remuneration for 5-credit lecture class is $5,201.03 - $6,340.22. Compensation is prorated based on type and duration of assignments. Individuals newly hired to Adjunct Professor group at the college are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement. Hired applicant may receive additional compensation in the form of stipends for additional assignments or participation in certain projects.

Essential Functions
- Teach a total of 12 credits of college classes and possibly more depending on funding. This will likely be one 5-credit course in Winter 2023 and two courses totaling 7 credits in Spring 2023.
- Translate, interpret, instruct, and assess assigned ELTE courses in a manner that promotes student success and multicultural perspectives.
- Teach early childhood education Initial Certificate courses in Russian through hybrid and online modalities, on scheduled days and/or times.
- Incorporate active student learning, with emphasis on current anti-bias educational theories and research.
- Participate in program marketing and student recruitment activities that are effective for diverse populations.
- Contribute to program development and revision of curriculum that reflect advances in the field of early childhood education.
- Attend and participate in regular department, division and college meetings.
- Contribute to funding proposal development to support continuation of the Russian Immersion programming.
- BA in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field with experience in early learning environments.
- Fluency in the Russian language, both written and spoken.
- Documented successful teaching experience.
- Ability to relate to students and staff of varied ethnicity, ages, backgrounds, and abilities, and a commitment to a culturally diverse environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
- Ability and willingness to adapt to changing teaching schedules and situations.
- An MA in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field with experience in early learning environments.
- Documented successful community college teaching experience in Early Learning & Teacher Education.
- Knowledge of current curriculum, teaching, and assessment practices.
- Ability and willingness to employ continuous improvement in curriculum, teaching, and assessment.
- Willingness to participate in college initiatives/governance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience translating or interpreting from Russian to English or vice versa.
- This position is NOT eligible for relocation allowance.
