Job description: The Special Education Teachers at Arrowhead are responsible for leading students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, physical, social, emotional, as well as psychological growth and maturation. As a special education teacher for Arrowhead, you will have the opportunity to stretch your imagination on how to reach our youth while working with other professionals focused on helping the youth at Arrowhead Ranch. The teacher will be responsible for instruction of students with wide range of disabilities including ASD. The teacher will facilitate a structured classroom environment including functional curriculum within the self-contained classroom. Teachers will keep detailed and accurate records of student progress toward achieving IEP goals. All of this will be done with the assistance of a Para-Professional. Classroom behavior management is assisted with Behavioral Health Specialist assigned to the classroom.
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare and implement the instructional process for students with IEPs that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students
- Deliver instruction, through the use of curriculum materials and educational software
- Develop daily lesson plans and classroom schedule that reflects state and school requirements
- Collaborate with content teachers to provide instructional support and approved modification to the curriculum
- Implement standards for student behavior in order to ensure a safe, secure and effective learning environment by providing a high degree of structure, clear expectations, and consistency
- Participate in IEP meetings and complete required components of case study evaluation
- Any qualifications set by state certification authorities or the appropriate agency; must have an LBS1 license.
- Must be willing to become First Aid, CPR and CPI certified.
- Must be physically capable of being able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Will value diversity and incorporate cultural differences into educational planning and implementation into work environment.
- Must have a valid driver?s license and approval from the state of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services to transport children. Must qualify to become insured by Arrowhead?s insurance carrier.
