Looking for Illustrator for YA Mystery Graphic Novel (Initial Assets & Pilot Page) - Contract to Hire
I am a graphic novel writer based in Los Angeles looking for a dedicated illustrator to create character assets, a sample page, and a simple teaser poster for a graphic novel. There is potential to grow into a long term creative partner for this graphic novel in the future. The story is a YA mystery featuring a diverse cast and a cat with special abilities. I am seeking an artist who can blend the cinematic composition of Saga and Into the Spiderverse with the character-driven emotional elements found in Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. The project requires an artist who can capture:
- Diverse Character Design: Nuanced portrayals of biracial and multicultural characters.
- Atmospheric Environments: Capturing the specific look and feel of suburban environments (Los Angeles).
- Sequential Storytelling: Dynamic panel pacing that balances mystery and humor.
Deliverables:
- 1 Pilot Page + 2 Character Sheets + 1 Simple Teaser Poster
Requirements:
- Portfolio demonstrating Sequential Art (actual comic/graphic novel pages).
- Strong communication and ability to meet monthly milestones.
- Ability to capture local Los Angeles architecture and urban lighting is a plus
- Open worldwide with a strong preference for an LA-based artist
