Alfred A. Knopf is currently seeking an Associate Publicist to work on a wide variety of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction titles-with a particular focus on Knopf's poetry list. Alfred A. Knopf is a storied leader in commercial and literary publishing and home to some of the most iconic authors in the world, including Nobel Laureates Toni Morrison, Kazuo Ishiguro, Orhan Pamuk, and Alice Munro; Prize-winners Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, Robert Caro, Joan Didion, Yaa Gyasi, Jhumpa Lahiri, Cormac McCarthy, Michael Ondaatje, Tommy Orange, and Anne Tyler; and bestselling authors including Caro Claire Burke, Michelle Zauner, Maggie O'Farrell, Emily St. John Mandel, Carl Hiaasen, Ken Burns, and Lawrence Wright, among many others. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Executing media campaigns for both paperback and hardcover titles across a range of genres, including securing national, regional, and niche media (radio, TV, print, online, newsletters, podcast).
  • Independently planning and executing author tours, including author travel, and maintaining detailed author schedules.
  • Accompanying authors to local NYC based interviews and bookselling events.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with producers, editors, book reviewers, event coordinators, festivals, and booksellers.
  • Communicating and building partnerships with agents, as well as managing high-touch author care.
  • Creating persuasive press materials, including press releases, pitch letters, author Q&As, and story ideas.
  • Reading manuscripts ahead of publication and contributing to publicity plans.
  • Collaborating with the editorial, marketing, and sales teams on campaign execution.
  • Identifying  new media opportunities to build on existing contacts and brainstorms creative angles for our list.

This is a hybrid position requiring at least two days per week in our offices at 1745 Broadway in New York City. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance, which includes the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT, & PA). Please apply if you meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of publicity experience in a publishing environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team setting
  • Ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize
  • Ability to independently manage campaign budgets
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a creative and strategic thinker
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of Muck Rack, Reletter, Podchaser, or similar media databases a plus
  • Interest in poetry and the evolving media landscape a plus

This is a hybrid position requiring at least 2 - 3 days per week in our offices at 1745 Broadway in New York City. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance, which includes the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT, & PA). The salary for this position is $56,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
