[Remote] Strategic Finance Business Partner - Product and Engineering

They are seeking a Strategic Finance Business Partner to manage the Product & Engineering P&L, translating technical initiatives into financial frameworks and guiding investment decisions amidst ambiguity.
Responsibilities
- Partner with P&E leadership to manage the department P&L, translating technical initiatives and infrastructure needs into clear financial frameworks that inform resource allocation and investment decisions across product development, engineering operations, and platform infrastructure
- Build financial models and business cases that evaluate competing P&E investments (ie. new platform capabilities, DevOps tooling, infrastructure optimization, technical debt reduction) and provide clear trade-off analysis when ROI metrics don't exist
- Work closely with Engineering leaders to interpret complex cost dashboards, validate technical cost analyses, and translate infrastructure spending patterns into business context that executive leadership can act on
- Deliver monthly and quarterly expense analysis to identify cost trends, investigate variances, and diagnose root causes of budget overruns across engineering tooling and cloud infrastructure spend, then partner with technical leaders to develop corrective actions
- Lead the annual planning and quarterly forecasting process for P&E, collaborating transparently with engineering, product, and infrastructure teams to align budgets with strategic priorities
- Apply AI tools to accelerate scenario modeling, automate variance analysis, and extract insights from complex cost datasets, enabling faster and more accurate financial recommendations
- Design and maintain reporting frameworks that give P&E leaders visibility into cost drivers, burn rates, headcount productivity, and project spending to enable faster, data-informed decision-making
- Help guide headcount planning decisions in partnership with the P&E leaders and the greater People organization
- Provide financial guidance on build-vs-buy decisions, vendor negotiations, infrastructure capacity planning, and technical experiments that balance performance with cost efficiency
Skills
- 5+ years of progressive finance experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or finance business partnering roles
- Demonstrated experience supporting Product & Engineering or similar technical functions in a SaaS, DevOps, or technology company, bringing familiarity with how engineering organizations operate and spend
- Proven ability to operate in ambiguous environments where clear success metrics don't exist, bringing structure and frameworks to help leaders make complex trade-off decisions
- Balance of strategic and tactical capabilities - comfortable rolling up sleeves to build systems and processes while maintaining strategic perspective
- Strong proficiency with financial modeling, variance analysis, and building executive-ready presentations that translate technical complexity into actionable financial recommendations
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Adaptive Insights, Planful), business intelligence platforms (e.g. Tableau, Looker, PowerBI), and cloud cost management tools (e.g. Vantage, AWS Cost Explorer)
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets proficiency for financial modeling, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and scenario analysis
- Comfort using AI tools to accelerate financial analysis workflows, with the judgment to validate outputs and maintain accuracy while improving efficiency
- Track record of building trusted partnerships with senior technical leaders and influencing decisions through data-driven storytelling
- Executive presence and credibility to hold your own in challenging conversations with senior leadership
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field

- Experience scaling finance operations through periods of rapid growth or significant business transformation
- Prior experience as a Finance Business Partner supporting Product & Engineering organizations, with an understanding of engineering cost structures and technical trade-offs
- Deep understanding of SaaS unit economics and cloud infrastructure cost modeling, with experience using cloud cost management platforms (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, CloudHealth, Vantage)
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, or R for data analysis and financial modeling automation
- Familiarity with Anaconda products
- Experience applying AI-powered analytics tools to financial forecasting, anomaly detection, or cost optimization workflows
- Background as a software engineer or technical professional who transitioned into finance
- Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment
- Experience working in an open-source, AI, or data science-oriented company
