Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2026-06-19

About arenaflex – Pioneering the Future of Aviation Operations

At arenaflex, we are redefining how the aviation industry delivers safe, reliable, and seamless travel experiences. Our Operations Analytics (OA) team is the engine that transforms raw data into strategic insight, empowering every stakeholder—from flight crews to executive leadership—to make data‑driven decisions that enhance operational efficiency, passenger satisfaction, and overall business performance. As a remote‑first organization, arenaflex offers a flexible work‑from‑home environment that values autonomy, continuous learning, and a collaborative spirit.

Why This Role Matters

The Data Engineer you will become is a cornerstone of arenaflex’s data ecosystem. You will design, build, and maintain the “single source of truth” data foundations that power analytics, reporting, and predictive modeling across the company. Your work will directly influence how arenaflex optimizes flight schedules, improves on‑time performance, reduces operational costs, and ultimately delivers a world‑class journey for millions of passengers each year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Acquisition & Integration: Identify, extract, and ingest data from a wide variety of internal and external sources, including flight operations systems, maintenance logs, crew scheduling tools, and third‑party APIs.
  • Data Cleansing & Curation: Apply advanced data‑profiling techniques to assess data quality, resolve inconsistencies, and construct clean, well‑documented datasets that meet the needs of analytics teams.
  • Data Modeling & Architecture: Design scalable, high‑performance data models (star, snowflake, and data‑vault) that support both ad‑hoc queries and enterprise‑wide reporting.
  • ETL/ELT Development: Build robust ETL pipelines using SQL, Python, and industry‑standard tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt) to transform raw data into curated tables ready for consumption.
  • Automation & Self‑Service Reporting: Develop modular, reusable reporting solutions that enable business users to generate insights without reliance on IT, while ensuring version control and governance.
  • Cloud Migration & Modernization: Partner with the Cloud Engineering team to transition legacy data workloads to modern cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), leveraging serverless architectures and managed services.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Work closely with data analysts, data scientists, product owners, and cross‑functional stakeholders to understand requirements, share best practices, and mentor junior team members.
  • Security & Compliance: Embed privacy‑by‑design principles into every data process, ensuring compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and industry‑specific regulations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay ahead of emerging data technologies, propose innovative solutions, and champion a culture of data literacy throughout arenaflex.

Essential Qualifications (Minimum Requirements)

  • 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience designing and optimizing complex queries for large datasets.
  • Hands‑on experience with ETL/ELT patterns, including tools such as Python, SAS, or comparable programming languages.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in reporting database environments (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, Azure Synapse).
  • Self‑starter mindset with a proven track record of managing multiple projects, prioritizing tasks, and meeting tight deadlines in fast‑paced settings.
  • Commitment to data security and privacy, consistently applying best‑practice safeguards for personal and operational data.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non‑technical audiences and foster collaborative relationships.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; eligibility to work in the United States and be at least 18 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications (Competitive Edge)

  • Bachelor’s degree or certifications in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Prior experience in the airline or transportation industry, providing context for aviation‑specific data challenges.
  • Familiarity with cloud‑native data solutions (Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, Google Cloud Dataflow) and modern data warehousing platforms.
  • Exposure to data‑visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker, enabling you to translate curated data into actionable dashboards.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration tools that support scalable data pipelines.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex operational problems, identify root causes, and propose data‑driven solutions.
  • Problem‑Solving: Proactive approach to troubleshooting, with a focus on delivering reliable, repeatable fixes.
  • Collaboration: Team‑first attitude, valuing diverse perspectives and fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Adaptability: Comfort working in ambiguous, high‑visibility settings where priorities may shift rapidly.
  • Continuous Learning: Passion for staying current with evolving data technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
