Commercial Underwriting Specialist

This role offers the opportunity to own a profitable book, partner closely with agency partners, and influence both underwriting strategy and market growth. They will be responsible for underwriting and marketing new and renewal business within assigned authority. This role partners closely with Sales & Marketing to build agency relationships, drive profitable growth, and support long-term client retention. What you'll do:

  • Underwrite small to mid-sized accounts with occasional exposure to more complex risks
  • Manage submission flow and maintain a high-quality, compliant underwriting portfolio
  • Partner with sales leadership to drive agency performance and execute business plans
  • Build strong broker relationships and act as a trusted, consultative resource
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions across new and renewal business
  • Leverage data, market insight, and catastrophe modeling tools to inform decisions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on strategic initiatives and process improvements
  • Mentor junior team members and support ongoing team development

What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of underwriting or related insurance experience
  • Strong understanding of market trends, coverage structures, and risk evaluation
  • Proven ability to build and maintain agency relationships
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-focused environment
  • Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Exposure to reinsurance concepts and catastrophe modeling is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
