To support our continued growth and expanding portfolio of transformation initiatives, arenaflex is seeking a Lead Architect – Domain-Driven Design (DDD) & Cloud Solutions to join our distributed team. This is a fully remote opportunity for an experienced practitioner who can lead the application of DDD principles across the software development lifecycle, partner with executive stakeholders, and shape the technical direction of mission-critical platforms.
Position Summary
As the Lead Architect at arenaflex, you will serve as a senior technical leader and trusted advisor, guiding the design and implementation of domain-driven solutions within complex enterprise environments. You will collaborate with business stakeholders, product leaders, and engineering teams to deeply understand business domains, define strategic architectures, and ensure that our software systems reflect the evolving needs of the organizations we serve.
This role is ideal for an architect who is equally comfortable facilitating executive-level workshops, mapping complex business processes, and writing code or reviewing technical designs. You will have direct influence over architectural decisions, modernization roadmaps, and the standards that shape how arenaflex delivers value at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Domain-Driven Design Excellence: Lead the end-to-end application of DDD principles, including domain analysis, strategic modeling, bounded context identification, context mapping, and the development of a ubiquitous language shared between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Architect Scalable, Maintainable Systems: Design and guide the implementation of scalable, resilient, and extensible software architectures — including microservices, event-driven systems, and cloud-native platforms — that align tightly with business capabilities.
- Partner Across the Business: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, operations, and executive leadership, to translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable technical strategies.
- Modernize Legacy Platforms: Assess current-state architectures, operating models, and ways of working; identify opportunities to modernize technologies, reduce technical debt, and enable digital transformation.
- Facilitate Strategic Conversations: Lead workshops, discovery sessions, and architectural reviews to articulate capabilities, surface dependencies, and build consensus on solution direction across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Define and Document Domain Models: Create clear, expressive domain models that capture business rules, workflows, and invariants, and serve as a living source of truth for engineering teams.
- Conduct Business and Process Analysis: Gather information about business processes through interviews, shadowing, surveys, and report analysis to inform architectural decisions and identify improvement opportunities.
- Coordinate Multi-System Solutions: Identify interdependencies across systems, design seamless integration patterns, and ensure that solutions deliver a unified, intuitive experience to end users.
- Provide Strategic Advisory Support: Advise clients and internal partners on process design, technology selection, and capability roadmaps grounded in business outcomes.
- Mentor and Elevate the Team: Coach engineers, analysts, and fellow architects on DDD practices, architectural patterns, and modern cloud-native development techniques.
What You Need to Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
- Proven, hands-on experience applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) or equivalent strategic design methodologies in production environments.
- Demonstrated AWS cloud migration experience within large-scale enterprise environments.
- Strong background in Enterprise Business Process Modeling (BPM) and Business Capability Modeling (BCM).
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
- Strong analytical mindset with excellent data collection, synthesis, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated skills in process mapping, technical design, and translating ambiguous business needs into structured solutions.
- Proven ability to build trust, drive consensus, and partner effectively with cross-functional and distributed teams.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities and ambitious timelines.
- Commitment to safety, security, and the responsible handling of data.
- Deep appreciation for diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and ways of thinking.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Preferred Qualifications (Competitive Edge)
- In-depth knowledge of the airline industry, including operational domains such as reservations, flight operations, crew scheduling, loyalty programs, or revenue management.
- Experience leading large-scale digital transformation or platform modernization programs.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures, CQRS, saga patterns, and messaging platforms such as Kafka or SNS/SQS.
- Prior consulting or advisory experience with C-level stakeholders.
- Relevant AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect Professional) are a plus.
