Role Overview

arenaflex is seeking a highly motivated, detail‑oriented Data Engineer to join the Global Outreach – Data Solutions & Insights (DSI) team. This entry‑level, full‑time, work‑from‑home position offers a unique chance to work on large‑scale data architectures that power critical business and financial analytics across arenaflex’s worldwide operations. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, design robust data pipelines, and ensure the highest standards of data quality, reliability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Design, Build, and Optimize Data Solutions

  • Architect, develop, and test large‑scale data solutions that deliver actionable insights to arenaflex’s global business and finance units.
  • Construct highly flexible, reusable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and load data from diverse source systems using Apache Airflow (or equivalent orchestration tools).
  • Implement and maintain data models, data warehouses, and data lakehouse solutions on cloud platforms such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, and Azure Synapse.
  • Apply advanced SQL techniques, query optimization, and execution tuning to ensure sub‑second response times for analytical workloads.
  • Develop custom ETL/ELT processes using SQL, Python, Shell, or Go, adhering to best practices for code quality, testing, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product owners to translate business requirements into scalable technical designs.

Data Quality & Governance

  • Design and enforce data quality frameworks, including validation rules, anomaly detection, and automated monitoring.
  • Implement data lineage tracking and metadata management to provide transparency and traceability across the data lifecycle.
  • Participate in code reviews, data model reviews, and governance committees to uphold arenaflex’s standards for data integrity and security.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with cross‑functional teams—including finance, operations, product, and engineering—to understand evolving data needs and deliver timely solutions.
  • Contribute to the evolution of DSI’s engineering practices by adopting CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), automated testing, and deployment automation.
  • Stay current with emerging data technologies, cloud services, and industry trends, proactively recommending improvements that enhance performance, cost efficiency, and scalability.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: Minimum 8 months of hands‑on experience (internship, co‑op, or project work) with data modeling, relational databases, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language used for data engineering (Python, Shell, or Go).
  • Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and big‑data ecosystems (Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Dremio).
  • Data Pipeline Tools: Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, or similar.
  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to translate complex business problems into clear, data‑driven solutions.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands‑on experience with data lakehouse architectures and modern data platforms (e.g., Delta Lake, Iceberg).
  • Exposure to distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Flink.
  • Knowledge of version control systems (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks for data engineering.
  • Understanding of data security, privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA), and best practices for data governance.
  • Prior experience working in a remote or distributed team environment.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to tackle ambiguous, complex data challenges with creative, data‑centric solutions.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable learning new tools and technologies quickly in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to delivering high‑quality, production‑ready code and data assets.
  • Collaboration: Proven teamwork skills, with a willingness to share knowledge and mentor peers.
  • Customer Focus: Understanding of how data solutions impact business outcomes and end‑user experiences.
