Senior Quality Assurance Engineer – Virtual Testing & Simulation for Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging (MSP) – Robotics, HIL, System Integration & Automation
About arenaflex
arenaflex is a global leader in intelligent automation, robotics, and sustainable packaging solutions. Our mission is to reshape the future of fulfillment, logistics, and material handling by combining cutting‑edge mechatronics with environmentally responsible packaging technologies. With a portfolio that spans autonomous mobile robots, high‑speed sortation systems, advanced packing cells, and next‑generation packaging materials, arenaflex delivers end‑to‑end solutions that power some of the world’s largest distribution networks.
Our Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging (MSP) team sits at the heart of this innovation engine. The MSP team drives strategic collaborations across operations, engineering, supply chain, design, and research groups to create products that are not only high‑performing but also environmentally conscious. If you thrive in a fast‑moving, iterative environment where every line of code, every simulation, and every test can directly influence the efficiency of millions of packages moving through the world, arenaflex is the place where your impact will be felt.
Why This Role Matters
As a Quality Assurance Engineer – Virtual & Simulation Testing, you will be the guardian of product excellence before a single physical prototype touches the floor. You will design, develop, and execute high‑fidelity virtual platforms that emulate real‑world hardware, software, and material interactions. By doing so, you enable rapid validation, early risk mitigation, and cost‑effective iteration for complex robotic cells, autonomous vehicles, sortation equipment, and sustainable packaging solutions.
This role sits at the intersection of product development, quality assurance, and operations. You will partner with product engineers, manual QA teams, and internal customers—including operations, maintenance, process engineering, and service groups—to ensure that every new solution meets stringent quality, reliability, and sustainability standards before it is deployed in a live fulfillment environment.
Key Responsibilities
Virtual Platform Development & Execution
- Design, build, and maintain high‑fidelity simulation environments that incorporate real‑world software stacks, hardware control loops, and material models.
- Develop Hardware‑In‑the‑Loop (HIL) test rigs that allow seamless integration of actual automation software with virtual hardware models.
- Implement automated test frameworks and execution engines that can run thousands of design‑of‑experiment (DOE) scenarios in parallel.
- Collaborate with product teams to gather simulation requirements, ensuring that virtual models accurately reflect upcoming hardware and software releases.
Quality Assurance & Validation
- Define and enforce quality standards, performance thresholds, and reliability metrics for mechatronic and packaging solutions.
- Run comprehensive virtual test campaigns that validate system‑level requirements, including functional correctness, safety compliance, maintenance readiness, and integration with material handling equipment (MHE).
- Identify, triage, and document defects, bugs, and performance regressions across multiple product lines; drive root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Synchronize virtual testing outcomes with physical QA testing to create a unified validation strategy that accelerates time‑to‑market.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication
- Act as the primary liaison between the virtual testing team and internal customers such as Operations, Robotics & Mechanical Engineering (RME), Advanced Control & Engineering Services (ACES), Process Engineering (PE), Operations Engineering (OpsEng), and Worldwide Design Engineering (WWDE).
- Present simulation results, quality metrics, and risk assessments to cross‑functional leadership, translating technical findings into actionable business insights.
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions to educate product and QA teams on best practices for virtual validation and HIL testing.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain adherence to federal, state, local, and corporate regulations, standards, and policies related to safety, environmental impact, and data integrity.
- Continuously evaluate emerging simulation tools, automation frameworks, and industry best practices to keep arenaflex at the forefront of virtual testing technology.
- Contribute to the evolution of the MSP team’s testing methodology, ensuring scalability as product complexity grows.
Essential Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in large‑scale cross‑functional engineering environments, with a focus on modeling, simulation, testing, integration, or quality assurance.
- Domain Knowledge: Proven track record working with fulfillment systems, including storage equipment, material handling systems, automated sortation, and related automation hardware.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in simulation platforms (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Gazebo, ROS, ANSYS), HIL testing tools, and scripting languages such as Python or C++.
- Analytical Ability: Strong problem‑solving skills, with the capacity to dissect complex system interactions and propose robust solutions.
- Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, meet deadlines, and deliver high‑quality results under pressure.
- Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel up to 70% of the time to business locations, project sites, and partner facilities for on‑site validation and stakeholder engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, high‑speed packaging technologies, and robotic manipulation systems.
- Advanced knowledge of sustainable packaging materials, life‑cycle analysis, and environmental compliance standards.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling effective coordination across engineering, operations, and executive leadership.
- Project leadership experience, including the ability to initiate, scope, and close out projects with measurable outcomes.
- Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices as they apply to hardware‑software co‑development.
