Your impact

As an AI Tutor in the Social Sciences and Humanities, you will play a key role in training AI to better understand and generate human-centered content. Leveraging your background in psychology, history, philosophy, or related fields, you’ll support the development of smarter, more context-aware AI systems.

This is a contract remote position with variable time commitments. The services to be provided by the Contractor under this agreement are supplementary and not integral to the Handshake’s primary business operations. The Contractor’s services are distinct and separate from the core business activities of Handshake.

Your role

• Review annotation quality for tasks in the social sciences and humanities.

• Provide clear, structured feedback using proprietary tools.

• Evaluate how well AI systems understand social context, cultural nuance, and historical accuracy.

• Adapt to new content types and evaluation methods as projects evolve.

• Partner with internal teams to improve guidelines and workflows.

Your experience

• PhD (or ABD) in Psychology, History, Philosophy, Political Science, or a related field, completed within the last 10 years.

• Strong command of both academic and accessible writing styles.

• Deep critical thinking and contextual analysis skills.

• Comfortable working independently and applying nuanced judgment.

• Enthusiastic about the intersection of technology, language, and society.

Bonus areas of expertise

• Research experience with published work in a reputable journal.

• Previous AI tutoring experience.

• Teaching experience (professor, teacher, or tutor).

• Experience in technical writing, journalism, or professional writing.

Additional Requirements

• Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

• Ability to quickly adapt to new skills and evolving requirements.

• Personal device must support Windows 10 or macOS Big Sur 11.0 or later.

• Reliable access to a smartphone.

Location & Work Expectations

• Fully remote position.

• Not hiring in Wyoming or Illinois at this time.

Compensation range

• $40/hr - $75/hr

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
