Medical Informatics Analyst

About the position Provide technical, data and software support to customer departments such as Analytics and Insights Clinical Data Analytics, Strategic Informatics and Biostatistics, Value Partnerships, Hospital Contracting, Care Management and HCV Analytical Center of Excellence. Lead data solution projects to maintain and enhance Clinical Data Programs for the enterprise. Provide programming and data expertise for simple and complex data solution projects and ad-hoc requests. Present data and solutions to internal and/or external customers in a logical way. Provide data support and analysis for programs supporting over 4 million BCBSM beneficiaries using administrative claims data totaling over $20 billion per year. Provide analysis and data support for various corporate departments including Value Partnership, Wellness Care Management, Hospital Contracting, and Center of Excellence in support of major corporate initiatives such as PGIP, RMRA, STARS and NCQA/HEDIS. Automate analytic models and tools to create robust and reproducible software packages that integrate into core operational activities. Enable self-serve functionalities within the Analytical Informatics environments to enhance user experience and support the technical community. Standardize, harmonize, clean and share data with others in the organization as well as external customers. Support various reporting activities and continuously strive to make them more efficient and easier for the customers to consume. Work with the Enterprise IT department and Business Clinical Analytics team to maintain and enhance our Clinical Data programs. Hybrid role with remote work permitted within a reasonable commuting distance of the Detroit, MI office.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information System, Business, Mathematics, Healthcare Information Technology, or related field of study and four (4) years of experience as a Programmer Analyst Trainee, Programmer Analyst, Associate-Projects, Sr. Associate-Projects, or closely related occupation.
  • 4 years of experience in the following: Advanced functions in Python, SQL, SAS, or SPSS programming.
  • Microsoft tools and software such as Excel, Visio, Access, PowerPoint
  • Programming concepts such as Visual Basic, Business Objects, .Net, MDX, C++
  • Programming in Data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI
  • Ability to work in cloud data technologies such as Databricks, AWS, Redshift.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and data mining concepts such as ETL, DataMart design, fact tables, dimension tables, data views within data marts/data warehouses, OLAP, ROLAP, and data models such as star schemas and snowflake schemas.
  • Ability to recognize data patterns, quantify potential issues and identify solutions.
  • Standardize, harmonize, clean, prepare and use data for developing datasets, reporting and analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare terminology, plan/benefit design, and fundamental operational principles is essential, as well as a thorough understanding of administrative claims data, including expertise in standard coding schemes such as ICD-9/10 and HCPCS.
