Until Filled JOB DESCRIPTION McLean County Unit District No. 5 Position Title: Certified Teacher - 3rd and 4th Grade - Spanish or ESL Endorsement Preferred Location: Cedar Ridge Elementary School Department: Building Personnel Reports to: Building Principal FLSA Class: Exempt FTE: 1.0 SUMMARY This supplemental position provides content and language instruction to newcomer students as well as long-term multilingual learners. This position performs a wide variety of tasks with curriculum planning, supervision, presenting and reinforcing learning concepts, and teaching children in a multi-age classroom setting. DUTIES * Teaches culturally responsive, rigorous, and language scaffolded curriculum.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Challenges deficit thinking as an advocate for multilingual learners through actions and in conversations.
  • Designs coherent instruction, employing a variety of instructional techniques and technology to meet the instructional and linguistic needs of individual students.
  • Seeks out opportunities to include culturally relevant strategies and to identify unique funds of knowledge of immigrant students and their families.
  • Creates a welcoming and supportive classroom environment in both the self-contained and co- taught setting.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies.
  • Shows care and concern for the physical and mental well-being of pupils by conducting restorative circles and utilizing other social and emotional learning practices.
  • Accepts the responsibility for the conduct and behavior of pupils whenever the students are under the school?s jurisdiction.
  • Cooperates and works in conjunction with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Attends staff meetings, accepts committee appointments and the responsibility for working with other staff members on projects concerned with the improvement of the total school program.
  • Assists in the selection of culturally and linguistically appropriate books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Ensures that instructional materials are utilized effectively for learning purposes.
  • Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all students including utilizing standards based grading practices.
  • Cooperates with agencies toward the development of friendly and intelligent school-community relations.
  • Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, ?seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Effective use of formative and summative assessment strategies to evaluate strengths and areas of improvement for classes, small groups, and individuals keeping accurate and complete records.
  • Participates in data days, the MTSS team, and the evaluation team to advocate for the unique learning experiences and needs of multilingual learners.
  • Perform all other duties reasonably related to the position as may be assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Multilingual Services.
QUALIFICATIONS * Must possess an Illinois Professional Educator License properly endorsed.
  • Spanish and/or ESL Endorsement Preferred
  • Must be familiar with the use of computers and how to engage students through technology utilizing Google.
  • Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
  • Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions in English as well as Spanish.
  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish with students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
COMPENSATION Fully Board Paid Medical, Dental, and Vision available Per the negotiated contract between McLean County Unit 5 and the United Five Education Association, for the 2023-2024 school year the starting salary range for candidates with a Bachelor's Degree is $39,124 - $54,304 and is based upon Education and Certified Teaching experience. Candidates with a Master's Degree is $43,819 - $64,946 and is based upon Education and Certified Teaching experience.
